Just Right Farm- Plympton, Massachusetts USA
Farm dinners are all the rage and as such they come in nearly as many varieties as heirloom tomatoes these days. Some are quite rustic with long, mismatched tables and chairs cobbled together in a field. Others are tablecloth affairs on terraced patios with candelabras, but rural sophistication as I enjoyed at Just Right Farm with amenities such as a handsome screen porch complete with custom made furniture, flowing linen drapes, oil lanterns and refined, simple tableware make a culinary excursion to a farm quite enjoyable on a warm, buggy July evening in southeastern Massachusetts.
After reading Janice Randall Rohlf’s review of Kimberly and Mark Russo’s farm dinners in The Boston Globe last year I made a note to myself to book ahead this summer so as not to miss what turned out to be a superb dinner in a beautiful setting. Just Right Farm has everything literally just right. The farm, the presentation, the food, the service-it was all superb. The efforts of Kimberly and Mark Russo with their team were evident in attention to every detail. If I were inclined to be married again-doubtful as once is enough for me-I would definitely tie that knot at the farm.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted with offers for a cold drink and a leisurely meander around the restored, three hundred year old farm and gardens. I was enthralled with the whole vibe-lovely potager, ruby red farmhouse and charming goats bounding out to greet us as if on cue.
Dinner was fantastic-a five course, prix fixe melange of local offerings, gorgeously plated and elegantly served.
I am marking my calendar now to be sure to go again next year. You should do the same. Perhaps we will be seated at the same table. I’d like that.
