Old Chatham Sheepherding Company
This summer I went wandering through the Hudson River Valley and noodled my way to the Old Chatham Sheepherding Company in Old Chatham, New York. It is a lovely spot, although spot hardly describes it as it covers acres upon acres of lush green pastures with big, old, red milking barns and loads of sheep, of course. I could have moved right in. If you are not familiar with their cheeses, you should make a point to try them. Sold online and at better grocers and cheese shops. I love not only their camembert, but also their maple sheep’s milk yogurt.
I loved the sheep, the barns were immaculate, the farm very quiet on a warm afternoon and it was just the sort of restful place one would hope sheep would live. They even have an honor system cheese shop.
En route, you have to stop at The Old Chatham Country Store and Cafe. It is the perfect spot for a fantastic sandwich, the newspaper, a latte…
