Frances Palmer at Snug Harbor Farm
Last Saturday I made a beeline road trip to Snug Harbor Farm in Kennebunk, Maine. The farm has been on my must-go-to list for quite sometime. The additional lure was a reception with one of my favorite potters, Frances Palmer, and an opportunity to shop her stunning, handmade wares in person.
After a quick trip of less than two hours from Boston, I was chatting with Frances in the perfect setting of Snug Harbor Farm. Poof! It was magical transport of my body and mind. Akin to her work, Frances is calm, classic, whimsical, and warm. I enjoyed meeting her some years ago at the New York Gift Fair, but this was even better. She seemed to be in her element surrounded by the delicious garden delights of the farm itself as she is a prolific gardener and of course, her stunning work.
Snug Harbor Farm is a rambling, well curated-but not too much so, nursery and garden shop full of beautiful plantings, garden accessories, barns, animals, potting sheds with cupolas, and greenhouses brimming with meticulously pruned topiaries. It’s an easy place to meander, made even more so by the welcoming presence of proprietor, Tony Elliot. His effusive and fun nature was immediately apparent as he mingled between the flowers, his well mannered poodles and wandering customers. I found the whole experience to be even better than I had imagined.
Frances Palmer’s work is widely recognized in all of the top notch garden and home decor publications and blogs. She is down to earth and engaging with a true appreciation for the likes of me who find such pleasure in her work.
I encourage you to hop in your car and beeline it to Snug Harbor Farm. Frances’ work will be there through Friday, July 25, 2014.
If a beeline isn’t doable, put it on the must-go-to list and then make sure you go. Soon.
